Under A Mulberry Moon by Charlene Raddon

Hi, everyone. Julie has allowed me to blog today about an anthology, Under a Mulberry Moon, which was released today. This is a collection of nine sweet to sensual (no graphic sex) western historical stories to ignite your imagination and feed your passion for reading. I hope you'll give us the chance to sweep you away from your daily cares and entertain you with sigh-worthy novellas set between 1865 and 1900. It's a super line-up. And Under a Mulberry Moon is a bargain at .99. Check it out.
My story, The Lady Lassoes an Outlaw, is set on the Outlaw Trail in southeastern Utah, a fascinating country of red rock cliffs and formations that boggle the eye. The history of the trail is fascinating. This is Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid territory, except they didn't exist yet when my story takes place. Read the blurb below. It's a fun story and I had a blast writing it. I hope you'll like it too.
Here is a little about our stories from our fantastic authors.
From Zina Abbott:
Milwright's Daughter
Eliza Wells' uncle Joseph Wells, whisks her away for a visit with family while her grandmother recovers, but refuses to arrange her transportation home.
As startling details from the past come to light, Eliza realizes her grandmother has recovered and her uncle’s true motivations are not in her favor. The only one she can turn to for help is Kit Halsey — who her grandmother sent to bring her home — if he is willing to put his life on the line to save her.

From Patricia PacJac Carroll:

Worth the Wait

Ruby runs from her parents to be a mail order bride to Yankee, Charlie Ransom. Charlie left the war only to find his parents and family farm gone. Hearing of cattle roaming through Texas, and knowing the need for beef in the north, he bought a Texas ranch and ordered a bride to help him make his dreams come true. Problems arise when Ruby refuses to wed him until he says he loves her.

From Carolyn Clemmons:

A Family for Merry

Former orphan train child now grown, Merry Murphy Bird believes she can build a successful life operating the boarding house she and her sister purchased. Rescuing three quirky orphans from a current orphan train was irresistible if not quite legal. Merry is determined to give the children a better life than she and her sister endured in Nebraska. Boarder Lawyer Blake Woolf has come to town to take over the practice of his late uncle. Blake was the eldest of ten children and forced to care for them far too often. Now he wants nothing more to do with children.

From Carra Copelin:
Ada and the Texas Cavalryman
Donal 'Mac' McTiernan is on what he hopes to be his last mission for the U.S. Army. He's tracked the deserters to Brady City, Texas where he decides to operate under cover until ready to make his move and arrest the two men. Mac had planned to go home to Dallas and live out his life. He hadn't planned on encountering the green-eyed, red-headed woman who would completely turn his life upside down.

From Keta Diablo:
Comes a Spectre
Anya's ten- year-old son, Willie-boy, found his father hanging in the barn six months ago and hasn't spoken a word since. Now the boy is gravely ill and there's only one man who can save him, Sutter Sky, a learned shaman known as Yellow Smoke, a shaman who was deeply in love with Anya at one time. But fate had other plans—Anya was forced to marry a cruel man. Worse, Anya is convinced the ghost terrorizing them is her late husband.
Will Yellow Smoke put aside his bitterness to save Willie-boy, and how will he dispel the evil, sinister ghost from their lives?

From P. A. Estelle:
The Widow Buys a Groom
Katherine Parnell, owner of Maggie’s Baked Goods, is alone to run the family business and raise her four-year old son. The Civil War left Meadow Creek, Kansas, with few marrying aged men. The women decide to meet men from other states whose lives have also been ripped apart and are ready to start anew. Katherine's attitude, however, is: “I may need a man, but I don’t ever want another husband!”
Jim Sutton, new in Meadow Creek inherited some land and is hoping to make this small town his home. He too has demons and no desire to get close to anybody.
Can they find happiness together or will ghosts from the past keep their love at arm’s length?

From Cissie Patterson:
Mathew's Freedom
Matthew is running from a guilty conscience and saving a woman and her son isn’t in his plans. They need a real man, not one who freezes and runs away when a life is at stake. Brenna is determined to do what she needs to survive, for her son's sake. Marriage isn't in her plans, but neither is giving up.
She decides to seek employment. Jobs are scarce, but men are plentiful in Freedom. Marriage may be the only way out of her situation. Matthew & Brenna must come together to save the one person trying to tear them apart.
From Charlene Raddon:
The Lady Lassoes an Outlaw
Aurora Cavender travels to Utah to complete a secret assignment and to find her twin brother. She never expected to run into the man she once loved. Garret Mosely had abandoned her on their wedding day. Gorgeous as ever, he shocks her by trying to tell her he's not Garret but Nebraska Joe, an outlaw with the Hell's-Gate gang.
The same gang who supposedly kidnapped and murdered Jason Cavender. Aurora knows her brother still lives. As identical twins, they sense each other's emotions. He's hurt but alive.
Now, she too, is in the hands of this ruthless outlaw gang. Can Garret — will Garret — help her find Jason and escape Robbers' Roost?

From Jacquie Rogers:
A Family for Polly
Polly hated the life she and her sister led after they were adopted by a surly Nebraska farm couple who really wanted free drudges. She would never treat the two children she’s adopted so harshly. In fact, she believes the large boarding house she and Merry purchased is an ideal place to raise children, with a large yard, numerous rooms, and a good school nearby. Still, Polly needs a husband, so she convinces Ford (Manford) Daily to marry her and be on his way. The problem is, he won’t go.

I hope you enjoy our stories and please spread the word.

Thanks for welcoming me back to Cowboy Kisses!

As I said in my first visit, almost all my books feature cowboys, one of my favorite types of hero. Another subset of faves is the cowboy/daddy hero, whether he’s a daddy when the book opens or he’s about to discover he has a child he never knew existed.

My upcoming book, The Rancher’s Baby Proposal, has a new twist for me. It’s the first time I’ve written the story of a single dad who is raising his child from birth. Don’t ask me why it’s taken me so long to get around to this story, because I love Reagan and his little boy Sean!

Watching the big, strong hero take care of his infant son tugged at my heart. So did seeing Reagan’s struggle to do the right thing for his child. Oh, and I can’t forget my surprise at how he handles the feisty flirt who’s crushed on him forever. :)

Here’s a peek at the back cover blurb:

HER SECRET COWBOY CRUSH
Ally Martinez has always been known as a fun and flirty kind of gal. But deep down she’s never forgotten the cowboy who left town. When her crush Reagan Chase comes home after a five-year absence, Ally knows this is her big chance. The guy I’ve always wanted. Only Reagan has something different in mind…
Still reeling from his last relationship, Reagan needs a babysitter for his month-old son. With Ally’s help, he can get his family’s ranch ready for sale and get out of Cowboy Creek. The problem? Ally is one seriously cute distraction. But Reagan will do whatever it takes to keep his heart safe. Even if it means losing the only place—and the only woman—he can call home.
And here’s a clip from early on in the book:

Just as Reagan’s waitress disappeared through the doorway into the kitchen, the front door of the shop opened, and Ally entered.

Her long dark curls tumbled down almost to her waist and bounced as she walked toward him. She had never been tiny, and she had filled out more in the years since he had last seen her. With her gleaming dark eyes, rosy cheeks and snug orange T-shirt, she gave the bright pink seats and decorations in the sandwich shop some competition. He recalled her hanging around the schoolyard in grade school. He had been a couple of years ahead of her. Even that long ago, she had always acted larger than life—and been the life of the party.

Thinking of Sean, he frowned. Maybe Ally as a babysitter wouldn’t be such a good influence on a preteen or a teenager…but a one-month-old? What could it hurt? Besides, even if she accepted the offer he planned to present to her, he and the baby wouldn’t be here long enough for her to make much of an impact.

“Hi.” Sounding a little breathless, she took the booth across from him. “I got here as soon as I could.”

“Hope you didn’t have to rush.”

“No rush. No more than usual, anyhow. My papa says I never run at half speed when I can take it up to full.” She laughed. “But I’m running behind now because, just as I was leaving, one of the customers came to the register with a big order.”

Since they had met up at the local hardware store, where Ally worked as a clerk, she had slicked something on her lips, shiny and red as cherry candy. Suddenly, he felt an urge to lean across the tabletop for a taste.

Whoa, Nelly.

He’d been away from women too long. Or not long enough.

Sex wasn’t supposed to be on his radar for a good while into the future. Preferably, at least not till Sean turned twenty-one. He tried to think back to his school days and the younger Ally, when the few years’ age difference between them seemed a much wider gap.

“Is something wrong?” she asked. “You’re frowning.”

“No. Nothing’s wrong. I’m just trying to decide what to have. To drink.”

She smiled at him. “So, how has the big, bad city been treating you all these years? Well enough, I guess, or you would have been home again before now.”

“Houston did treat me well, I have to admit.” The woman he had met just before graduation was another story. “Going to school there was a good experience, one I don’t regret. But I’m not in Houston anymore. I’ve got a job outside San Antonio, sales manager for a distributor of farming equipment.”

She blinked those big dark eyes. “Why would you be selling farm equipment, when you have a ranch right here to come home to?”

“It pays the bills.”

“Oh.” His curt reply had thrown her. It didn’t keep her down for long. “Well, I can certainly see the benefits of that.”

He hoped so. Just as he hoped this meeting would benefit them both. But he wanted to lead up to his idea slowly. And he didn’t want to say too much about the past.

If he had his way, neither Ally nor anyone else in Cowboy Creek would learn what happened between him and the woman he’d loved and had thought loved him, too.

Cowboy Kisses blog Barbara White Daille TCTS 3-16-17

Hi, everyone! I’m Barbara, and I write romance on the sweet(er) side for both Harlequin Western Romance and Entangled Bliss. Thanks for letting me drop in to chat about my new release in the Hitching Post Hotel series.

To date, all but two of my books feature cowboys, my favorite type of hero. Cowboys really are what my grandpa would have called the “salt of the earth.” They’re downhome, unpretentious men who love working with livestock and the land and don’t mind getting their hands dirty. And yet they clean up so nice, don’t they! lol

When I think of a cowboy hero, he’s always someone reliable, focused, and dedicated.

Someone who knows how to mind his manners—unless he has good reason not to.

Someone who knows how to treat a lady right—except on the very rare occasion he’s done her wrong.  Luckily, my heroes are never guilty of that.

Kidding! Because of course, in one way or another, all heroes have done their heroines wrong or will do so during the story. That’s what provides the conflict and helps keep the heroine—and us—on the alert, unwilling to fall for him. Or maybe falling for him despite knowing things can never work out.

Tyler, the hero of The Cowboy’s Triple Surprise, is a footloose, ramblin’, never-gonna-be-tied-down rodeo cowboy who finds himself in a real predicament. I would like to add that situation’s not of his own making, but as you’ll see from the copy from the book cover, that’s definitely not true!

Hope you enjoy the excerpt. I’d love to hear what you love about cowboy heroes. And feel free to ask questions or chat.

From the cover:

A BIG SURPRISE—TIMES THREE!

The last time rodeo cowboy Tyler Buckham was in Cowboy Creek, he spent a steamy night with local beauty Shay O'Neill. Back in town for a quick visit, he's hoping they'll have another go-around before he heads for his next rodeo. But seeing Shay pregnant—with triplets!—leaves Tyler feeling as if his best horse has kicked him in the gut.

Shay swore she wouldn't fall for an unreliable cowboy, and Tyler's playboy past makes him even less likely to settle down. The whole town conspires to push them together, and Tyler insists he wants to do his duty by Shay and the triplets, but Shay knows she can't count on promises from a cowboy. Besides, Tyler never once mentioned the word love…

Excerpt
“I let my temper get away from me when we talked last night,” Shay admitted. “But I meant what I told you about being off the hook.”

“What if I don’t choose to be? Don’t I have a say?”

“Why would you?”

“Because those kids you’re carrying are mine, too.”

His eyes glittered in the sunshine, more from repressed anger than concern, she was sure. Again, she had to remind herself of the responses she had rehearsed. “And are you planning to be their daddy? Planning to…to be a family with us?”

“Whoa.” He raised his hands and backed up a step, as if she were a horse that had suddenly gone wild. “I never said either of those things. Neither one of them was ever in my plans.”

“I thought not.” Clearly, he had also never considered the word that wouldn’t leave her lips, either. The M word. “Well, it doesn’t matter. When it comes down to it, we barely know each other, do we? And we obviously seem to care about each other even less.”

She waited a beat, but he said nothing, which only reinforced what she had feared all along. He had never cared about her. How could she believe he would feel anything for her babies?

Unable to look at him, she began walking toward the hotel.

She had cared about him, at least in those days he’d spent in Cowboy Creek. She had just lied about that.

When he fell into step beside her, she swallowed a bitter laugh, admitting she had also failed dismally at fooling herself. She knew many things about Tyler. How he held a woman when he slow danced. How he liked to flirt. How he liked to kiss. How he went after what he wanted.
Right down to her bones, she had known he would follow her now, that he wouldn’t give up.

As if he planned to prevent her from getting away, he walked close beside her, close enough that she picked up the scents of his aftershave and his freshly washed cotton shirt. His boots were free of dust and scuff marks, as if he’d worn his Sunday best.

For her?

The thought left her swallowing another laugh. Even she couldn’t fool herself about that.
