Lawmen and Love

I've always enjoyed thinking about tough, seasoned lawmen turning as smooshy as a marshmallow when love catches them unawares.

Such is the case in my new release -  Lawmen and Love.

Three tough lawmen aren’t prepared for the moment when love arrives and turns their worlds upside down.

This boxed set contains three full-length sweet and wholesome romances full of heart, humor, and hope featuring courageous women and brave men who uphold the law.

Corsets and CuffsHe never knew trouble had such a pretty face. She never knew the law could be so handsome and hardheaded.

Pampered and privileged, Brianna Dumont escapes the life she’s always known in an effort to clear her father’s good name. She arrives in Baker City, Oregon, intent on selling her father’s shares in a mine. Only the mine is a bust, her father’s partner is a crusty ol’ coot who hates women, and the sheriff in town is determined to keep her behind bars.

With good friends around him, a small ranch of his own, and a fulfilling job as sheriff, Tully Barrett loves his life. Then an exasperating woman shows up, making demands and driving him crazy. No matter how hard he tries to ignore her brains and beauty, she works her way under his skin.

When trouble follows her to Baker City, will Tully be able to protect her, along with his heart?

Caterina - She’s hiding her past. He’s determined to reveal the truth.

On the run from the Italian mafia, feisty Caterina Campanelli escapes New York City with the help of her brother and travels across the country. She ends up in the small, rugged town of Pendleton, Oregon, where she makes new friends and focuses on building her future as a chef. Completely unprepared for the passionate feelings inspired by the handsome deputy in town, the last thing she needs is for a man of the law, especially one so relentless and exasperating, to dig around in her past.

Dedicated to his work as a deputy, Kade Rawlings takes pride in his community and his job protecting it. Determined to remain single and unfettered, he finds himself unable to stay away from the Italian spitfire who rolls into town keeping secrets and making the best food he’s ever eaten. Using his charm, wit, and brawn, he may just get more than he bargained for when he sets out to win her trust and her heart.

Will Kade be able to keep Caterina safe when her past catches up to her?

Distracting the Deputy - He’s sworn to uphold the law. Her life is riddled with closely guarded secrets. When the past catches up to her, will she rush to him or run away?

When he’s not evading grabby-handed octogenarians, mentoring troubled teens, or rescuing rascally youngsters from disaster, Deputy Knox Strickland can be found upholding the law in the eastern Oregon region he patrols. He avoids making plans for tomorrow, focusing instead on doing his best today. Then one chance encounter with a beautiful woman in a wheat field turns his world upside down. Knox is left questioning what secrets she’s hiding, and how hard he’ll have to work to scale the fortress she's built around her heart.

Zadie Redmond isn’t like most women. A life spent looking over her shoulder has destroyed the promising future she’d once envisioned. Her days are spent leading hunting and fishing adventures or teaching tiny ballerinas the proper way to pliĆ©. She fills her evenings with do-it-yourself projects while worrying about the day her past catches up with her. In an unexpected moment, the local deputy swoops into her world like a storybook hero and she knows nothing will ever be the same. Zadie will do anything to keep Knox safe from the danger lurking in the shadows, even if it destroys her chance at love.

Will Knox convince Zadie she can trust him with her secrets and her heart?

Wishing you a fabulous February full of love!

In December 2023, Captain Cavedweller and I were able to cross one trip off our travel bucket list - seeing the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. That visit inspired me to write a new holiday series of books set in a fictional but beautiful home on the Columbia River in Oregon. The four books follow four generations of the Hudson family, beginning with Brant Hudson, who builds Hudson House, and the feisty woman who captures his heart.

A Christmas Dream - Hudson House Book 1

He came to build the house of his dreams, but found a home for his heart.

After an extensive search for the ideal location to build a house he’s spent years designing, Brant Hudson knows he’s found the perfect site the moment he sets foot on the land near Silver Bluff, Oregon. However, frustrating delays leave him laboring alongside the very crew he hired to finish the house in time for Christmas. His work leads the woman who catches his eye to believe he’s a carpenter rather than the owner of the grand manor.

Holland Drake grew up on a farm, but she aspires to secure a position as a housemaid at Hudson House. While delivering lunch to her brother at the worksite, the door opens to a job when Holland encounters a strikingly handsome carpenter whose charm captivates her. Soon, Holland discovers the enchanting man is none other than the owner of the house and her new employer.

As the holiday season arrives amid a flurry of excitement and possibilities, Holland and Brant face choices that could change their lives forever. Will fear hold them back from stepping into the future together, or will their Christmas dreams of love come true?

A Christmas Dream is the first book in the Hudson House Holiday series of wholesome, heartwarming Christmas romances full of the joy of the season.

A Christmas Spark - Hudson House Book 2

Will Christmas spark a romance that blooms into lasting love?

After losing his brother and part of himself on a French battlefield during the Great War, Kase Hudson seeks refuge from the haunting memories at his childhood home. He finds solace in carving wooden Santa figurines in his workshop in the stables that he sends to gift shops to sell. Kase distances himself from his family’s unwanted sympathy until his sister, Sarah, arrives for the holidays with her vibrant friend. He never expected beautiful Dori to breathe warmth and joy into the house right along with his heart.

With no family of her own, photographer Dori Stanford eagerly accepts Sarah Hudson's invitation to join her for Christmas at her family’s home in Oregon. The two friends travel from their college in California to Silver Bluff, excited to spend the holidays at Hudson House. Once they arrive, Dori makes it her mission to connect with Sarah’s sullen brother, Kase, and draws him into the wonder of the season.

Will her persistence and encouragement be the spark Kase needs to step out of the past and into his future—possibly one that includes Dori?

A Christmas Spark is the second book in the Hudson House Holiday series of wholesome, heartwarming Christmas romances full of the joy of the season.

A Christmas Love - Hudson House Book 3

Will a Christmas romance lead two searching hearts to a lifetime love?

Bound to the Hudson House family estate, Vienna Hudson strives to uphold the legacy her grandparents established. When she’s not busy preserving her heritage or managing the family corporation, she steals away for horseback rides across the sprawling grounds—until a chance encounter with a handsome stranger turns her world upside down.

Surveyor Sam Bishop is tasked with plotting a new interstate through the Silver Bluff area. He faces a significant challenge when his calls to an elusive landowner go unanswered, prompting an impromptu visit to Hudson House. Excited to explore the beautiful acreage, nothing could prepare him for Vienna's fiery welcome—armed with a pistol and a courageous spirit.

As holiday bells ring across the estate, Vienna and Sam work together to navigate the complexities of both the road project and the ever-evolving feelings dancing between them.  Will the pair find a way to embrace their unexpected connection? Or will the pressures of responsibility and ambition tear them apart before they realize love is the most precious gift of the season?

A Christmas Love is the third book in the Hudson House Holiday series of wholesome, heartwarming Christmas romances full of the joy of the season.

A Christmas Hope- Hudson House Book 4

A heartfelt holiday tale of a family’s legacy that leads two hearts to love.

Reeling from the recent death of his father, Alex Hudson returns to Silver Bluff to protect his family's legacy. Upon reaching Hudson House, he discovers the once-vibrant estate all but abandoned. On top of that, his conniving aunts seem intent on seizing his inheritance. In search of support, Alex turns to a local attorney. There, he meets a woman who becomes an ally, friend, and the one person who can give him hope and a place to belong.

Nori Laroux enjoys working as a partner at her father's law firm. However, when he entrusts an important client to her care, Nori finds herself grappling with her feelings for Alex Hudson from the moment they meet. Committed to protecting his inheritance, she is determined to help Alex preserve the legacy of Hudson House, even if it means risking her own heart in the process.

When Alex suggests the idea of reopening the historic home for a Christmas celebration, Nori and her family eagerly step in to help deck the halls and fill Hudson House with cheer. Will the holiday season bring Alex and Nori to the discovery that hope is a special gift and that love is the most treasured of all?

A Christmas Hope is the fourth book in the Hudson House Holiday series of wholesome, heartwarming Christmas romances full of the joy of the season.

Marrying the Mechanic

There are certain things I particularly enjoy writing about, like cowboys, small towns, and weddings.

When you add in a royal wedding? Yeah, that's a whole lot of fun!

So how do cowboys, small towns, weddings, and royals go together?

Well, a princess lives in the small town of Summer Creek, which is filled with cowboys, ranchers, and farmers. Her brother, the prince, comes and sweeps a local girl off her feet. And the girl's brother just happens to be the hero in my upcoming release!

Although Summer Creek is a fictional town, I think it would be so fun to visit!

Ethel, a loony goat, is the town mascot. She might be seen wandering around Summer Creek with a child's rain boot on one leg, or wearing a hat.

The town has plenty of quirky characters, but it's a place where they all feel at home.

I'm excited to share about the latest release in this series.

The book will release October 24!

A heartwarming journey of love, growth, and the bonds that tie hearts together even when life leads down unexpected paths.

Mechanic Jace Easton grapples with the sudden changes happening around him. His younger sister, Tassie, has always relied on him, but now she’s off traipsing around the globe with the prince of her dreams. As Tassie prepares to step into her future, Jace is confronted with the harsh truth that she has matured, and so has her best friend, Deena. The deepening attraction he feels for Deena—a pull that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore—leaves him further unsettled and struggling to accept his new reality.

Deena Durant may earn her living welding farm equipment, but her true passion lies in crafting metal sculptures. Alongside her artistic dreams, she clings to the hope that Jace might eventually see her as more than his sister’s friend. Until then, she conceals her feelings and does her best to encourage him as everything familiar shifts into unchartered territory.

When Jace and Deena work together to help Tassie’s dreams come true, will they discover their own path to true love?

Marrying the Mechanic is a celebration of unexpected love, personal growth, and the power of relationships in a wholesome, small-town romance.

One thing that was especially fun about this story was having our heroine be a talented welder. She's strong and tough, and determined. I don't think our hunky hero mechanic stood a chance!

Holiday Dreams Trilogy Coming Soon

A few months ago, I asked my readers to choose one series they would like to see more stories about some of the secondary characters.

Overwhelmingly, the response was for historical stories in my fictional town of Holiday, Oregon.

So, I've been busy working on a trilogy of sweet and wholesome western novellas called Holiday Dreams.

The books will release every Thursday beginning March 21!

Release Date: March 21

Then he encounters an exasperatingly beautiful woman attempting to break into the local school, leaving him to contemplate the possibility of a new chapter in his life.

Desperate to escape the arranged marriage her father is attempting to foist upon her, Zara Wynn accepts a job as a schoolteacher in Holiday. Intent on a fresh start, she doesn’t want anyone to discover she’s a runaway bride. But concealing her past proves difficult, especially when the astute and handsome Marshal Durant captures her heart.

When her father and fiancƩ find her, will Zara be forced to abandon her dreams of love? Or will Dillon make them come true?

Following a devastating tragedy that leaves her isolated and shattered, Keeva Holt is eager for a new beginning. In need of consolation and clarity, she decides to seek refuge with her brother in Holiday. As she navigates through her grief and attempts to find direction for her future, Keeva’s vibrant spirit and exuberance challenge those around her, including the reserved Pastor Ryan. Will John and Keeva learn to lean into their faith and let go of their fears?

Release Date: April 4

 DREAMS FOR COURAGE

Will two lonely hearts find the courage to love?

A loner for most of his life, Rowan Reed wants nothing more than to be left alone. He buys a run-down farm near Holiday, Oregon, intending to turn it into a successful ranch through hard work and determination. When a nosy, albeit beautiful, woman shows up on his doorstep, the instant attraction he feels to her sets off nearly as many warning bells as her barrage of probing questions.

Private detective Rhetta Wallace always unearths the truth. Involved in a lengthy investigation into a man suspected of killing a politician's son, her pursuit leads her to the town of Holiday. Accompanied by her adopted son, Rhetta finds herself squaring off against the grumpy, growling rancher she believes is the suspect. Whether or not Rowan admits his true identity, Rhetta is sure of two things: his innocence of the crime, and the deep affection he awakens in her heart.

Will their dreams for courage help them release the past and embrace a future together?

Writing this story made me so hungry. Here's one of the recipes shared in the book!

INGREDIENTS

CRUST

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup butter, softened

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

FILLING

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons corn starch

1 tablespoon lemon juice

20-ounce can crushed pineapple

1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts

1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut

DIRECTIONS

Mix together flour, butter and cream cheese until dough forms a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for an hour (or overnight).

While dough chills, combine pineapple with sugar, corn starch and lemon juice in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Stirring continually, bring to a boil (about 4 minutes) and continue boiling for two minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

When ready to bake tassies, preheat over to 350 degrees.

Spray a mini muffin pan with non-stick spray, then roll dough into balls about the size of a pecan and drop into muffin cups. Using a tart tamper, press it into the dough until it flattens on the bottom and comes up the sides of each cup. If you don't have a tart tamper, use the bottom of a small jar or glass to press the dough.
Stir nuts and coconut into filling, then spoon filling into each cup. Bake for about 30 minutes, until filling is bubbling and the dough is just starting to brown.

Cool  in pans, then enjoy!
Yield: 24 tassies

A Cowboy and His Pickup

What's a cowboy without a pickup?

It tows his horse trailer. Hauls his equipment. Takes him to rodeos or bounces over cattle guards and across ruts on back roads. His pickup is more than just a vehicle. It's part of who he is.

General Motors Corporation has a long and successful history in pickup design. It started in 1941 with the Chevrolet AK-Series, continued with the Chevrolet and GMC 1955 Task Force, building a legacy of dependable, beautifully designed vehicles that worked for blue-collar business, farms, and ranches across the US.

A new generation that offered four-wheel drive as a factory-built option arrived with the first C/K Series was produced from 1960-1965.  The Task Force series influenced the design of the C/K with wrap-around windshield and rear window, power steering and brakes, as well as a 12-volt electrical system. The C/K improved further on that design by offering the first drop-center ladder frame, making the cab of the truck sit lower. It was also the first pickup to offer an independent front suspension. It offered a more car-like ride and handing than the competition of the time.

The second generation of the series, marketed by both Chevrolet and GMC was produced from 1967 to 1972, under the "Action Line" moniker.

As with its predecessor, the second generation C/K included full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty commercial trucks. The C/K’s body design was modernized and given the squarer look enthusiasts are more familiar with today.

My oldest brother bought a C/K 10 in 1971. My dad liked it so much, he bought one in 1972.

Ol' Orange, as the pickup was dubbed, wasn't a vehicle that was kept polished and shined. It was a work truck. It hauled hay and kids and bags of feed. (Sometimes all at the same time!).  At any given moment, you could look in the bed of the truck and find a WWII era bucket full of fencing supplies, gopher traps, a shovel and pitch fork, hay leaves, and a tow chain.

Some of my earliest memories are riding in that pickup with my dad. It was the first highway-legal vehicle (unless farm trucks and tractors count) I was allowed to drive all by myself (we won't talk about the age I was when that happened).

Last fall, we were visiting Dad and he thought it might be fun to take Ol' Orange for a spin. Captain Cavedweler (my hubby) had to drop a new battery in it before we could get it up and going, but we drove the pickup out to my brother's place. I drove Dad there (with CC following behind in our pickup in the event we had a breakdown, which we didn't. On the way back to town, CC drove and I snapped this photo of him and Dad in Ol' Orange. I can't even begin to tell you how happy it makes my heart to see it.

When I began writing Lucky Shot (part of the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series), and set the book in 1972, I knew the hero of the book, Levi, needed his own orange and white pickup to drive.

What’s a girl to do when her aim is true?

As a registered nurse at the Boise VA Hospital, Grace Marshall is devoted to her patients, but some wounds require more than medical care. A patient too stubborn and angry to accept the help he needs storms out of her exam room, ruffling her feathers. Yet, when the man returns to apologize, something about him tugs at her heart.

Levi Gibson left for war young and idealistic but returned from Vietnam with physical scars and a haunted soul. He tries to banish the darkness brewing inside him with hard work on his family's potato farm, but it’s a young nurse’s kindness that brings unexpected light and joy into his life. If Levi can open up to Grace and let her see his pain, could she be the key that unlocks a future full of hope instead of mere survival?

After her father sends Grace a legendary pistol, target practice provides an excuse to spend time with Levi during the summer of 1972. As his shadows overwhelm him, it will take far more than a lucky shot for Grace to hit love's mark.

Cowboy Fashion, 1970s Style

I have a new book releasing in June. The setting is near Boise, Idaho, during the summer of 1972.

One of things that made me ridiculously entertained while writing this story was looking up fashions from that era.

My hero is a potato farmer, but when he "heads into town," he dresses like a cowboy (which is exactly what my farmer dad and brother always did.)

I thought it might be fun to share some of the western fashion highlights I could find online.

The kids had to get in on the action.
You could order these outfits for your little cowboy wannabe.

Quite the fashionistas!

From Wrangler. The hats might have changed, but the jeans remain a classic.

Stylin' in those colored pants.

And this one I had to add just because it makes me laugh. So much!

What about you? Any fun memories or fashions from the 1970s?

Be sure to check out my book, Lucky Shot, coming June 20, book 9 in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series!
