Roped Into Paradise

Picture a snowy central Oregon ranch, with several feet of snow on the ground in mid-January. Envision a handsome rancher up in the wee hours of the morning, scraping the windshield of his pickup so he can drive to the airport.

This cowboy is heading to Florida, as he does every year, to spend two weeks with his grandmother at her condo, completing her honey-do list and celebrating her birthday.

JJ travels light, just two changes of clothes in his duffle bag. Grams has a washing machine, and he's left the paint clothes he's worn on previous visits there anyway.

When he arrives at the condo, hours later than he planned due to ice on the runway and missing his connecting flight, he finds his grandmother's hot pink luggage piled just inside the door of her condo.

Too tired to consider what it means, he heads to bed, only to be awakened early by Grams, who informs him they need to do some shopping for him before they leave to catch their 11-day cruise to the Caribbean.

My new release, Roped Into Paradise, is the story of JJ, Grams, her wacky friends, and a cruise that will change his life forever when he unexpectedly falls in love with the horticulturist on the ship.

A cowboy, a cruise, and a meddling grandma.
What could go wrong?

JJ McKade expected to spend two weeks with his grandmother at her condo in sunny Florida, celebrating her birthday. Instead, he got shanghaied by his mischievous grandma on a Caribbean cruise—complete with hot pink luggage, a gaggle of giggling octogenarians, and a humiliating childhood nickname haunting his every move.

Between meddling matchmakers, unexpected friendships, and the endless chaos of cruise life, JJ can’t help being drawn to Kinsley Kline, the ship’s enchanting horticulturist. There’s just one catch: crew fraternizing with passengers is strictly forbidden.

With only a few months left in her contract aboard The Affinity, Kinsley can’t let anything rock her boat or derail her plans. Then the arrival of a hunky cowboy on the ship makes her question if some rules are meant to be broken, and a little boat rocking is a good thing.

From sun-drenched beaches to moonlit strolls, JJ and Kinsley must decide if an onboard romance can last on land, and if love is worth risking their hearts.

Packed with laughter, longing, and a grandmother who refuses to play by the rules, Roped Into Paradise is a heartwarming romantic comedy about family, hope, and finding love where you least expect it. Perfect for fans of witty banter, slow-burn romance, and cruise ship escapades that sweep you off your feet.

Marrying the Mechanic

There are certain things I particularly enjoy writing about, like cowboys, small towns, and weddings.

When you add in a royal wedding? Yeah, that's a whole lot of fun!

So how do cowboys, small towns, weddings, and royals go together?

Well, a princess lives in the small town of Summer Creek, which is filled with cowboys, ranchers, and farmers. Her brother, the prince, comes and sweeps a local girl off her feet. And the girl's brother just happens to be the hero in my upcoming release!

Although Summer Creek is a fictional town, I think it would be so fun to visit!

Ethel, a loony goat, is the town mascot. She might be seen wandering around Summer Creek with a child's rain boot on one leg, or wearing a hat.

The town has plenty of quirky characters, but it's a place where they all feel at home.

I'm excited to share about the latest release in this series.

The book will release October 24!

A heartwarming journey of love, growth, and the bonds that tie hearts together even when life leads down unexpected paths.

Mechanic Jace Easton grapples with the sudden changes happening around him. His younger sister, Tassie, has always relied on him, but now she’s off traipsing around the globe with the prince of her dreams. As Tassie prepares to step into her future, Jace is confronted with the harsh truth that she has matured, and so has her best friend, Deena. The deepening attraction he feels for Deena—a pull that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore—leaves him further unsettled and struggling to accept his new reality.

Deena Durant may earn her living welding farm equipment, but her true passion lies in crafting metal sculptures. Alongside her artistic dreams, she clings to the hope that Jace might eventually see her as more than his sister’s friend. Until then, she conceals her feelings and does her best to encourage him as everything familiar shifts into unchartered territory.

When Jace and Deena work together to help Tassie’s dreams come true, will they discover their own path to true love?

Marrying the Mechanic is a celebration of unexpected love, personal growth, and the power of relationships in a wholesome, small-town romance.

One thing that was especially fun about this story was having our heroine be a talented welder. She's strong and tough, and determined. I don't think our hunky hero mechanic stood a chance!

Luna Release Day!

Today is release day for my new sweet historical western romance - Luna!

Luna was such a fun story to write. When I was doing the research, I looked to old newspapers from Pendleton, Oregon, in 191, where and when the story takes place.

Among the top headlines that summer were a train robbery, Buffalo Bill's appearance at a circus that came to town, and the start of World War I.

I was able to have the hero and heroine, Hunter and Luna, on the train that is robbed. It was reportedly one of the last Wild West robberies where an old six-shooter was used.

Hunter and Luna also attend the circus and see Buffalo Bill Cody. I unearthed an old video of actual footage from some of the circus performances with him and his Wild West performers. It was so neat to watch that and imagine my characters in the crowd.

There's also a scene with a "damsel in distress" as well as Hunter keeping his real identity (it isn't a bronc buster) from Luna when they first meet.

I hope you'll give the story a try!

She’s searching for peace and grace.

He’s ready to step into his next big adventure.

Haunted by memories of the fateful day that changed her life, Luna Campanelli seeks a fresh start in Pendleton, Oregon. Life in the wild western town is nothing like she imagined, although the rugged beauty of the area soothes her troubled spirit. An unlikely friendship with one of the area ranch hands lifts her hopes, until she discovers the cowboy isn’t who he’s led her to believe.

Hunter Douglas didn’t intend to hide his identity from the woman he met on the train, but when she assumed he was his sister’s hired hand, he didn’t correct her. He never anticipated forming such a deep connection to her, especially when thoughts of her continue to infiltrate his carefully made plans. As a recent college graduate with an inheritance he intends to use to start his own ranch in Pendleton, Hunter must decide if he is willing to open his heart and include Luna in his future.

Will they embrace the unexpected love that has blossomed between them, or let fear tear them apart?

This sweet and wholesome romance is a story of love, healing, and the power of hope in a delightful western setting. Join Luna and Hunter on their journey as they discover what it truly means to love unconditionally.

I am excited to have a new sweet and wholesome western small-town contemporary romance to share with you!

It involves a celebrity chef who can ride and rope with the best of them, a school psychologist who cooks as a way to deal with the stress of her job, and the town of Summer Creek, filled with a cast of quirky characters.

Chef Owen Thorpe left behind his celebrity status when he moved to Summer Creek. The quaint town and country atmosphere allow him to seek solace in his recipes. His peace and quiet is threatened when he’s coerced into being part of a big auction package that includes the winner spending a week cooking with him in his restaurant. The last thing he wants is some chef wannabe in his way. However, the real danger he faces is losing his heart when the winner turns out to be a beautiful woman who knows her way around a kitchen.

Burdened by the weight of her demanding career as a school psychologist, Tawni Young turns to cooking and gardening to escape from the never-ending stress of her work. When her aunt gifts her an auction package that includes cooking lessons in the small town of Summer Creek, Tawni realizes the chef she’ll be working with is none other than a celebrity she had a huge crush on during her college years.  As they embark on a tantalizing journey of culinary delights, will Tawni and Owen discover the most important ingredient is love?

In this heartwarming and deliciously wholesome tale, Challenging the Chef takes readers on a savory adventure filled with sweet romance.

Writing this story made me so hungry. Here's one of the recipes shared in the book!

INGREDIENTS

CRUST

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup butter, softened

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

FILLING

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons corn starch

1 tablespoon lemon juice

20-ounce can crushed pineapple

1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts

1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut

DIRECTIONS

Mix together flour, butter and cream cheese until dough forms a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for an hour (or overnight).

While dough chills, combine pineapple with sugar, corn starch and lemon juice in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Stirring continually, bring to a boil (about 4 minutes) and continue boiling for two minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

When ready to bake tassies, preheat over to 350 degrees.

Spray a mini muffin pan with non-stick spray, then roll dough into balls about the size of a pecan and drop into muffin cups. Using a tart tamper, press it into the dough until it flattens on the bottom and comes up the sides of each cup. If you don't have a tart tamper, use the bottom of a small jar or glass to press the dough.
Stir nuts and coconut into filling, then spoon filling into each cup. Bake for about 30 minutes, until filling is bubbling and the dough is just starting to brown.

Cool  in pans, then enjoy!
Yield: 24 tassies

Sleigh Bell Serenade

Even though the holidays are behind us, I still enjoy wintery romances, which is why I started the Winter Wishes series that center around a January festival in the fictional town of Pinehill, Oregon.

The second book in the series, Sleigh Bell Serenade, recently released. I hope you'll take a look! It's available on Amazon in digital and paperback formats, or you can read it through Kindle Unlimited.

Bo's biggest worry is how empty the house will be when his sister heads off to college in the fall. He took over raising her and she's been the center of his world the past few years.

Juniper has recently had an epiphany that her life and friends or shallow, and she wants what her sister has with a peaceful home, an adoring husband, and friends who are more like family.

Will one chance encounter change everything for Bo and Juniper?

He keeps his heart heavily guarded.

She meets everyone with a friendly smile.

Will the attraction sizzling between them pull them into the space between their two worlds?

Burdened by too many responsibilities, Bowen Jensen struggles beneath their overwhelming weight. Between raising his teenage sister, running their family ranch, and managing Sleigh Bell Tours, he barely has time to sleep let alone do something just for himself. He can’t even recall his last date. Then a chance encounter with a beguiling woman leaves him pondering if there isn’t more to life than trudging through one lonely day after another.

Juniper Haynes appears to have it all with a successful real estate career and a picture-perfect life. In reality, she’s tired of dealing with demanding clients, wary of her so-called friends, and secretly longs for the peace she finds at her sister’s mountain home. After a magical New Year’s Eve kiss with a cowboy she barely knows, she realizes true happiness might only be found outside her comfort zone.

Can Bo and Juniper find the courage to embrace change and explore the possibility of a future together?

Find out in this sweet winter romance full of small-town charm, memorable characters, laughter, hope, and love.

Annoyed by his infatuation with Juniper, he took a step back, uncertain what to say. Words had never easily come to him. He was more of a doer than a talker.

In his younger years, his best friend, Ky, had always filled the gap since he could talk to anyone, anytime, about anything. Ky had received the gift of gab, while Bo had been given the gift of brawn and endurance.

But at that moment, an idea or two of something witty to say would have been helpful.

“Do you live around here?” Sassy asked as Bo stood there like one of the snow carvings that would fill the town next month at the Winter Fest.

“Cedar lives in Faraday with her husband. I live in Portland,” Juniper said. “I’m just visiting through the holidays.”

“So you’ll be around for New Year’s Eve?” Sassy asked. Heaven help him if the girl decided to take it upon herself to ask Juniper to go out with him to ring in the new year. Juniper nodded uncertainly.

“We’re hosting a little gathering of friends that night. Would you like to join us?” Cedar asked, smiling at Bo and then Sassy in invitation. “It’s very casual and informal. We’ll have finger foods and things like pizza and jalapeno poppers, and family-friendly games.”

“Why is this the …” Juniper started to speak, but Cedar gave her a quelling look that made her snap her mouth shut.

Bo might have laughed if he hadn’t been certain there was matchmaking afoot. Under normal circumstances, he would have run in the opposite direction as fast as possible, but he really wanted to see Juniper again. A party with her sister and friends seemed harmless enough.

“We’d love to come,” Sassy said with enthusiasm before he could respond. “Thank you for inviting us.”

Taming Christmas – Chapter One

“Do you need a napkin?”

Huck Powell turned and glared at his friends. Cort McGraw and Tate Morgan smirked as Cort held out a cocktail napkin and tipped his head toward a group of pretty girls lingering twenty feet away.

“I think I see a little drool starting to drop,” Tate said, pointing toward Huck’s chin. “The only question is if the cause of it is the redhead, blonde, or brunette.”

Huck sure wasn’t going to tell the two troublemakers he hadn’t been able to take his eyes off the girl with the wavy blonde hair since he saw her walk by ten minutes ago. She stayed with the two other girls, so it gave him hope she wasn’t there with a date or a husband. She looked to be around his age, although there were days Huck felt like he was pushing fifty instead of being a man in his mid-twenties.

Unwilling to provide fodder for Cort’s or Tate’s jesting, Huck turned his back to the women and feigned disinterest as Cort handed him a plastic cup filled with ice and Coke.

“Aw, quit giving ol’ Huck a hard time,” said Jason Price, one of the rodeo pickup men, as he walked up behind Huck and thumped him on the shoulder. “Cut some slack for the bull-riding champ of the Pendleton Round-Up. After all he went through today, he deserves a little respect.”

“Oh, we respect him for winning, sir, but Huck has got no game when it comes to the girls.” Cort grinned and motioned to the three females who were casting glances their way. “He’s been eyeing them long enough he’s lucky security hasn’t tagged him as a sicko or stalker and hauled him out of here.”

Huck tamped down the urge to slug Cort in the mouth to stop him from talking. Just because Cort had won the steer wrestling event and Tate had placed in saddle bronc riding didn’t mean it gave them free license to harass him all evening.

Then again, he was usually the one tormenting them. However, that afternoon when he’d made his trademark leap off the back of a bull after riding it the full eight seconds, he’d taken a hoof to the head and another to his gut. His brain felt like someone had tried to pack the space between his ringing ears with cotton. A tight ball of pain pulsed in his belly, while the dull throb in his thigh made it clear he hadn’t imagined the bull stomping on him as he charged off after the bullfighters.

Huck figured a good night’s rest would ease the misery in his stomach and thigh and send the headache thumping near the base of his skull packing. It shouldn’t be too long before the pain medication the doctor gave him kicked in. At least he hoped it would take the edge off soon.

He should have listened to the doc’s advice and skipped the dance, but he’d been in a mood to celebrate. Things had gone well until he’d seen that cute blonde walk in, then he’d suddenly felt like all his circuits had fried, leaving him barely able to remember his name.

“It’s the blonde one, isn’t it?” Tate asked, looking from him to the women. “She’s pretty, and she looks nice. The redheaded one reminds me of a cantankerous mule, and the brunette looks like trouble.”

“The blonde does look nice, and she’s got a great figure,” Huck mused and took a deep drink of his soda. “She’s the kind of girl I wouldn’t mind giving a tick check after a day out in the sagebrush.”

Cort hooted with laughter, Tate chuckled, and Jason merely shook his head. Huck couldn’t believe he’d just said that aloud. Embarrassed, he thought about storming off, but that would only cause Cort and Tate to be even ornerier later.

“Why don’t you go introduce yourself, Huck? Ask that girl to dance. Take her a drink,” Jason said, giving Huck a nudge forward along with a look of warning. “But make sure you behave like a gentleman.”

His voice echoed in Huck’s mind, stirring memories of his father. Hank Powell had raised him as best as he’d known how, and Huck missed him every day he’d been gone.

Shrugging off maudlin thoughts, Huck glanced at the group of girls, finished his soda, then headed over to buy three drinks.

He grinned and accepted congratulations from well-wishers as he waited for his order of three fruity mocktails made with a blend of juices and club soda. A lively fast-paced song began to play as he picked up the drinks and started toward the girls through the crowd. He attempted to two-step his way across the dance floor, doing his best not to drop the drinks.

He’d just approached the women when someone bumped him from behind. He tripped over his feet, nearly fell into the girls, and spilled all three beverages down the front of the redhead. She screeched and spun around, making a beeline for the restroom with the brunette following close behind her.

That left Huck facing the blonde who held a great deal of censure in her gorgeous blue eyes.

Before he could speak to her or offer an apology, though, Cort and Tate flanked him.

Tate removed his hat and politely tipped his head. “We’re so sorry, miss. Huck isn’t completely housebroken. His last girlfriend told him she’d rather bring home a feral cat than let him into her apartment again.”

“He’s been kicked in the head one too many times, miss. Don’t judge him too harshly,” Cort said with a pleading, boyish smile. “He doesn’t have the sense to know better, and he doesn’t possess the ambulatory skills of a drunken baboon.”

Huck’s hand curled into a fist as he considered how much attention it would draw if he tackled Cort and Tate and pummeled them into silence. Cort was several inches taller and many pounds heavier than he was, but as angry as he felt, Huck knew he could take him down.

Before he could start swinging, the blonde woman grinned. “He seems harmless enough, even if he’s about as smooth on his feet as a one-legged ostrich on ice.”

Tate and Cort both snickered.

“Where are you from?” Tate asked, taking a step closer to the female who had cast a spell over Huck.

Never, not once in all his life, had Huck been as instantly attracted to anyone as he was to her. In that moment, he wasn’t sure he liked it. The foreign, intense feelings left him nervous and unsettled.

“New Mexico. My folks have a ranch near Santa Fe. I talked my boss into sending me here this week to do some research. My friend Jenny and her cousin tagged along for fun. I’m Mara Evans.”

“Well, Mara Evans, it’s our pleasure to make your acquaintance,” Tate said, nudging Huck as he stood in a sticky puddle of spilled drinks. “I’m Tate Morgan. The big guy is Cort McGraw. The dolt with zero coordination and a red face is Huck Powell.”

Recognition registered in her expression as she smiled again. “Congratulations to all three of you for doing so well today. It was fun to watch you compete.”

Huck usually had no trouble charming women. He’d even been known to be witty and clever with his repartee, but as he stared at the female with rosy cheeks and pink lips, he figured his level of intelligence probably wasn’t up to par with a clod of dirt.

Tate and Cort elbowed him when he remained silent. If they kept that up, he could add cracked ribs to the other injuries he’d gained that afternoon. Slogging through his mind for something—anything—to say that wouldn’t prove his sudden lack of astuteness, he came up empty.

Woozy from his injuries or maybe the spell she’d cast over him, he grinned at Mara. “Want to dance?”

Much to his chagrin, the woman laughed—outright laughed—at him.

“I don’t think so, cowboy,” she said, giving him a dismissive look. “You can’t seem to stay on your own two feet, and I’m not willing to sacrifice mine.”

Be sure you check out the entire Rodeo Romance series starting with The Christmas Cowboy!

Tate Morgan is as tough as they come. He can handle the wildest bronc on the rodeo circuit, but he loses the ability to think straight around the beautiful woman he keeps running into at the airport. Completely captivated by the uptight executive who makes it clear she detests cowboys, Tate will have to work a little holiday magic if he wants to win her heart.

Married to her job as a corporate trainer for a successful direct sales company, Kenzie Beckett doesn’t have time for a man. Besides, after being burned twice by two-timing losers, she refuses to allow a third opportunity to exist. Unfortunately, no one told that to the handsome rodeo cowboy who catches her eye at the airport. He’ll need more than a pair of fine-fitting jeans, dusty boots, and dimpled smile to break past her resistance and bring her a heaping helping of holiday cheer.

Full of laughter and tender romance, The Christmas Cowboy takes readers on a sweet Christmas adventure to a happily ever after.

The Snowman's Sweetheart

If you're like me, sometimes there's just nothing  on a February day like a book full of sweet romance, a cup of hot tea, and a warm fire to make everything cozy and right in the world!

My latest release, The Snowman's Sweetheart, is full of winter charm, laughter, and loads of sweet romance.

In fact, I thought you might enjoy a little excerpt from the book today!
~*~

Sierra forced a smile, grabbed Jenn’s hand, and headed toward the door. “I’m starving. I think a big breakfast is in order. We’ll work it all off shopping.”

“Now you’re talking.” Jenn grinned as she grabbed her wallet and room key, and then the two of them stepped into the hall.

They both stopped at the sight of a man wearing a top hat and black tuxedo jacket with tails carrying a potted Christmas tree as he stepped off the elevator. He held a large gold gift bag decorated with white snowflakes in his other hand. When he looked at them, Sierra sucked in a gasp of surprise. The handsome guy looked exactly like the cowboy she’d met last night.

“Sierra?” he asked, his smile broadening as he walked over to them. “And Jenn. Hey! Fancy meeting you girls here.”

Jenn remained mute as she looked from Ky to Sierra, as though she struggled to make sense of their acquaintance.

Sierra wondered how Ky knew her friend’s name but couldn’t keep from grinning at him. “Good morning, Ky. What are you doing dressed like that, carrying a Christmas tree?”

“It’s a service I provide mostly during the holidays, but it extends through this weekend. I grow Christmas trees. Some hotel guests like to have a Christmas tree in their room, so I deliver them for a fee. They can choose between a live one in a custom-crafted wine barrel planter or a fresh-cut tree in one of my specialty stands. I provide lights and ornaments. They have options of elegant, whimsical, or traditional decorations.”

“That’s really neat,” Sierra said, thinking Kylan Snow looked even better in the broad light of day than he had last night. The tails and top hat sure didn’t hurt any either. He really was a handsome man, one with a warm smile and gray eyes that twinkled with mirth and life. “Might I assume you are making a delivery that veers on the elegant side?”

“Yep. For a traditional tree, I dress like a lumberjack, complete with a red and black buffalo plaid shirt. Whimsical, I put on elf shoes and a hat with pointy ears.”

“No way. That’s the one I’d choose just to see you wear that, Ky,” Jenn said, acting as though she and Ky were old friends.

How was that possible when they’d only arrived in town last night?

Will a whirlwind winter romance result in a forever love?

After a Christmas Eve catastrophe that left her heart encased in ice, Sierra Goodwin detests anything to do with winter and the holiday season. To take her mind off her troubles, her best friend talks her into a weekend spa getaway to a town she’s never heard of. Her bestie’s boyfriend tags along like a bumpy third wheel, and things go from bad to worse when they arrive in town to find a winter fest in full swing. Then Sierra runs into a handsome stranger, a man everyone calls Mr. Snowman, and discovers her heart might not be a frozen fortress after all.

Kylan Snow loves his life, his Christmas tree farm, and the town of Pinehill where he was raised. There’s nothing he enjoys more than a beautiful winter afternoon spent outside in the crisp, fresh air, or time spent with friends and family. When he unexpectedly encounters a dimple-cheeked woman in need of a little hope, he has no idea one weekend with her with completely alter his world.

Will their winter wishes for a forever sweetheart come true? Find out in this sweet romance brimming with laughter, snowmen, small-town charm, and love.

Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund

In 2012, my husband and I were sitting in the airport in Las Vegas waiting for our flight home. We'd been in town for National Finals Rodeo. As we sat there, observing a sea of cowboy hats coming and going from others also in town for the event, the idea for a new book hit me.

What if there was an executive-type woman who met a rodeo cowboy at the airport?

By the time we landed at home, I had an outline for the story and couldn't wait to start writing it.

As I was researching details for  The Christmas Cowboy (the first book in the Rodeo Romance series), I needed to know how much medical care an injured cowboy would receive at a rodeo versus going to the hospital. In the story, the hero is a saddle bronc rider named Tate who sustains a serious injury at a rodeo.

In an attempt to get my facts straight for the story, I reached out to the Justin Sportsmedicine Team®.

Through mobile medical centers, they provide care at more than 125 PRCA rodeos annually. Their responses to my questions were extremely helpful and that was when I first learned about the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund.

The JCCF is a non-profit organization that assists rodeo athletes who’ve sustained catastrophic injuries and are unable to work for an extended period. The JCCF steps in and steps up, offering support to injured cowboys until they can get back on their feet and back to competing. The JCCF also dedicate one hundred percent of all contributions received for disbursement to eligible applicants without any administrative fees being subtracted. When you donate $1, that whole dollar goes directly into the fund.

Founded in 1990 by the Justin Boot Company in partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) the fund was granted 501-C3 status as a non-profit charity organization in 1991. To date, the JCCF has awarded nearly $8 million in need-based financial assistance to almost 1,100 injured rodeo athletes and their families. Among those who serve on the board are recording artist Charlie Daniels, Professional Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, and former Dallas Cowboy star Walt Garrison.

I was so impressed with the Justin Sportsmedicine Team®, I wanted to do a little something in return to express my gratitude. So, I launched a campaign to donate a portion of my book sales to the JCCF during the month of December.

In 2015, I added the month of November to my promotion, including two months to raise funds for JCCF. Then I moved up the donation period to begin October 1.

My eighth Read a Book, Help A Cowboy campaign is in full swing and run through Christmas Eve.
Through my campaign, I strive to raise funds and awareness for the JCCF. During the campaign period, I donate ten percent of the net proceeds for ALL my book sales to the JCCF. Book sales include digital books, paperback and hardback books, audio books, and even Kindle Unlimited pages read!

If you enjoy rodeos and the cowboys who make them possible (or reading about them in books), I hope you’ll consider supporting the JCCF. It’s a great organization that really does make a difference when these cowboys are injured and one thing that's particularly wonderful about them is that every penny donated goes into the fund, not toward administrative expenses.

To help kick things off, I have the first three books in my Rodeo Romance series available in a boxed set, and for a limited time, the set is on sale for just 99 cents!

Or read the newly released Remembering Christmas, book 9 in the series!

Thank you for your help in supporting the JCCF! You can read more about the campaign here on my website: https://shannahatfield.com/give-back/

Blueberry Lemon Bread

 by Shanna Hatfield

In my new release, Distracting the Deputy, Zadie (the heroine) loves all things lemon. I think she'd give this delicious lemony blueberry bread her stamp of approval. Enjoy!

Lemony Blueberry Bread

Ingredients:

BREAD

1 3/4 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup sour cream, room temperature

1/4 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs, room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 teaspoons lemon zest

2 cups fresh blueberries

GLAZE

1 cup powdered sugar

2 teaspoons lemon zest

2-4 tablespoons lemon juice

lemon zest

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9×5 loaf pan by lining with parchment paper then coating with non-stick spray.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt. Set aside.

In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, oil, vanilla, sour cream, lemon juice and zest. Blend the dry ingredients into the liquid, stirring until just combined.

Fold in 1 3/4 cups of the blueberries. Pour batter into loaf pan and sprinkle remaining blueberries on top (reserve a few for garnish if desired).

Bake for 60-70 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the middle. Cool before removing from pan and glazing.

For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with lemon zest and enough juice that the consistency is thick, yet pourable. Top with a few berries and lemon zest.

Store wrapped in refrigerator for up to five days.

Yield: 10 servings

Trouble is coming, but for whom?

When he’s not evading grabby-handed octogenarians, mentoring troubled teens, or rescuing rascally youngsters from disaster, Deputy Knox Strickland can be found upholding the law in the eastern Oregon region he patrols. He avoids making plans for tomorrow, focusing instead on doing his best today. Then one chance encounter with a beautiful woman in a wheat field turns his world upside down. Knox is left questioning what secrets she’s hiding, and how hard he’ll have to work to scale the fortress she’s built around her heart.

Zadie Redmond isn’t like most women. A life spent looking over her shoulder has destroyed the promising future she’d once envisioned. Her days are spent leading hunting and fishing adventures or teaching tiny ballerinas the proper way to plié. She fills her evenings with do-it-yourself projects while worrying about the day her past catches up with her. In an unexpected moment, the local deputy swoops into her world like a storybook hero and she knows nothing will ever be the same. Zadie will do anything to keep Knox safe from the danger lurking in the shadows, even if it destroys her chance at love.

Will Knox convince Zadie she can trust him with her secrets and her heart?

A sweet romance full of quirky small-town fun, Distracting the Deputy is a story of hope, help, and hanging on to what matters most.
