National Read Across America Day

 by Shanna Hatfield

Today is National Read Across America Day!

It also happens to be the birthday of Dr. Seuss!

Created by the National Education Association, there are many ways to participate in this day that encourages children to read.

* Pick up an interesting book and read it.

* Read a book with a child (if it is one of your childhood favorites, even better!).

* Read aloud. Even if it is just to yourself, it's good practice for reading to children.

* Get caught reading. Children mimic what they see the adults in their world doing. Let them know reading is a great thing to do!

* Ask a child to read to you!

To celebrate, I'm doing a giveaway for my two children's books.

Steve the Mule is set in 1910 Pendleton, Oregon.

takes place in Baker City, Oregon, in the late 1800s.
